Asbestos guides by area

Each town page covers the housing you'll find there, where the council lets you dispose of asbestos, and how a licensed job runs in that area.

All asbestos removal work is carried out by WorkSafe-licensed removalists.

Somewhere not listed?

If you're between towns, or out on a farm, put the nearest town in the form; we keep your job on file and your details with us. Most crews travel an hour or more for a decent-sized job; the minimum call-out reflects the drive, and naming the nearest town and a road helps whoever eventually quotes judge that drive accurately. Or start again from the asbestos guide for all of Gippsland.

The 6 areas, and how their houses differ

Gippsland's asbestos era ran from the post-war building push to the late 1980s, and each part of the region built at a different time, so what turns up in your yard depends on where you are.

Bairnsdale and East Gippsland don't have a page yet. If you're east of Sale, put your town in the form anyway. For your own load, Bairnsdale Landfill takes domestic asbestos by appointment with 24 hours' notice.

Asbestos disposal: where the waste goes, and why your town changes the quote

Five council facilities across Gippsland take a homeowner's own asbestos: the four listed here, and Bairnsdale Landfill for East Gippsland, above. That shapes both the removalist's day and what you can do yourself.

Every one of those takes domestic loads only. The moment a licensed removalist takes the sheets down, the load is commercial and goes to an EPA-licensed commercial facility instead, with the wrapping, transport and tipping inside their price. So the tip that matters to the removalist may not be the one nearest you, and the drive is part of why a Gippsland quote can sit above the published 2026 ranges. A Warragul job and a Traralgon job with the same square metres can come in differently for that reason alone. The disposal page has each council's rules, phone numbers and wrapping limits in one place.

Checking a removalist before they come out

A removalist's name goes into the footer of this site only once they've agreed in writing to cover that area, and their legal name and WorkSafe licence number are checked against WorkSafe Victoria's public register. You can check the number on that register yourself before anyone comes out.

Until then, the town page is still a genuine guide to the housing, the council's disposal rules and how a licensed job runs there, and it's worth sending us your job anyway. Your job stays on file, and your details stay with us.

What to send, and who sees it

Put your town in the form, not just "Gippsland". Whether a job is in Moe or Maffra changes who would cover it, which tip the waste goes to, and the travel in the minimum call-out. Add 2 or 3 photos, the material as best you can name it (fibro fence, Super 6 roof, lagged pipe), a rough size in metres, and whether anything is broken; if the material is broken, burnt or storm-damaged and you need someone today, WorkSafe Victoria's directory of licensed removalists can help straight away. Farms and blocks between towns: give the nearest town and a road name so whoever eventually quotes can judge the drive.

Your job is held on file, not shared around. That's a deliberate choice: a job sent to several firms at once just means more unwanted calls, not a better price. A WorkSafe-licensed removalist carries out the actual asbestos removal. We keep your job on file, and your details stay with us. If you want a second quote, get one; the cost guide tells you what a fair one looks like, and nothing here stops you comparing. What you won't get is your number passed around the Latrobe Valley.
