Register your asbestos removal job
Fill in the form. Say what the material is, roughly how big, and where, and add photos if you have them. Then we keep your job on file and your details with us. Prefer the phone? Call 03 5608 5503. Leave your details when you call.
All asbestos removal work is carried out by WorkSafe-licensed removalists.
What helps us register the job properly
- Two or three photos: the whole thing and a close-up of the edge or a damaged spot.
- A rough size in metres, or "20 metre fence", "6 by 4 shed roof".
- Whether it's cracked or weathered. (Fire-damaged material is urgent: see below, not this form.)
- Access: can a ute park beside it, or is it up a slope behind the house.
- When you'd like it done.
How to take photos that show the job
3 photos do most of the work, and they don't need to be good, just clear.
- The whole item, from a few metres back. The full fence run, the whole shed, the roof from the yard or the street. This gives a removalist, when one sees it, the size, the access, and what's around it: the neighbour's fence, the clothesline, the power line over the shed.
- A close-up of an edge or a corner. The end of a sheet, a broken corner, the join where 2 sheets meet. The edge shows the thickness and texture, which is how a removalist tells older asbestos cement sheeting from later fibre cement or plaster without a sample.
- Any damage. Cracks, holes, chalky weathering. Damage changes the class of the job, so it changes the licence, the notice and the price. (Burnt or blown down and you need someone today? WorkSafe's directory, not this form.)
Take them in daylight without flash, and don't touch, scrape or lift anything to get the shot. If the material is up high, a photo from the ground is fine; nobody should be climbing a fibro roof for a picture. For internal jobs, one photo of the room and one of the material where it's exposed, at a pipe or behind a loose tile, is plenty. If you already have an asbestos testing report, photograph that too.
What to write in the box
4 things, in any order, and short is fine.
- The material, as best you can name it. "Fibro fence", "Super 6 shed roof", "eaves lining", "lagging on hot water pipes", "don't know, grey sheet in the bathroom wall". Guessing wrong costs nothing; leave it out and the registration is thinner.
- The size. Metres are easier to be right about than square metres: "22 metre fence, 1.8 high", "6 by 4 shed", "eaves right around a 3-bedroom house". A sheet count works too.
- The town, and a road if you're rural. Whichever removalist eventually signs for your town, which tip the waste goes to, and the travel in any quote all follow from this. "Near Leongatha on the Koonwarra road" is more useful than "South Gippsland".
- The timing, honestly. "Whenever" is a fine answer and gives an honest sense of timing for whoever eventually takes the job. Say so if a builder is waiting on it or a settlement date is set.
Add whether the material is still fixed in place or already down, and whether a ute or a small truck can get beside it. That's the lot. You don't need to know the rules, the licence classes or the price; that's for whoever quotes the job later to sort out.
What happens after you press send
Your job goes on file, by town and material, and your details stay with us. You're under no obligation, there's no fee, and if you'd rather your job were taken off file, email hello@gippslandasbestosremoval.com.au and it will be. The privacy note says what's kept and for how long.
If something is broken, burnt or blown down
Treat damaged fibro with the care friable asbestos needs: don't disturb it or test it yourself, and follow the state's guidance while you arrange the job.
- Keep people and pets away from the material and the area around it. Close the gate, shut the shed, keep the kids off the fence line.
- Don't sweep it, don't vacuum it with a household vacuum, and don't hose it at pressure. All 3 lift dust.
- The state's guidance is to keep the material wet. A gentle mist from a garden hose, only if you can do it without walking on or handling the sheets, keeps dust down while a licensed removalist is arranged. A pressure washer is not a mist.
- Don't stack the broken pieces, drive over them, or put anything in the bin or a skip. Leave it where it lies.
- Don't climb up to tarp a damaged roof yourself; rain coming in through damaged roofing is urgent too, so treat it the same way.
- If it's storm damage, photograph everything before anything is moved, for the insurer.
If the material is broken, burnt or storm-damaged and you need someone today, WorkSafe Victoria's directory lists licensed removalists who can help straight away. Find one. The storm and fire damage page explains what the clean-up involves and why burnt material that now crumbles is Class A.
What a good quote contains
A finished asbestos removal quote is a short document, and you can check it against this list in a minute.
- The area, in square metres, and what it's made up of: 36 square metres of fence, 24 of shed roof, 2 metres of pipe lagging. If the number isn't there, the price is a guess.
- The licence class the job needs, A or B, and the removalist's licence number. Check the number on WorkSafe Victoria's public register.
- The WorkSafe notification: who lodges it and when. The regulations put that duty on the licence holder, never on you, and require them to give you a copy of the notice and of the control plan before starting.
- Where the waste goes, and that disposal is in the price. The load from a licensed job is commercial waste and goes to an EPA-licensed facility, not the council tip.
- The clearance: whether the job needs one (friable work, or bonded work over 10 square metres) and who the independent person is.
- What's excluded. The new roof, the new fence, replacement eaves, patching, and the ground under a shed are separate items or separate trades. Better to see them listed as excluded than to find out on the day.
- How extra material found on the day is priced.
Set the number against the published 2026 ranges in the cost guide, remembering that Gippsland travel sits on top of them. A quote can be above the range and still be fair; a quote with no area, no class and no waste route isn't a quote yet, whatever the number. If 2 removalists quote and the areas differ, ask why. Someone measured wrong, or someone found something the other missed.
